Europe vs Facebook | Max Schrems

In accordance with the European legislation on data protection, every individual has the right to receive a copy of all the personal information that a company has gathered on them. Max Schrems, an Austrian law student, wanted to put the practical application of this right to the test as part of a class work project. Since any Facebook user outside of the United States has a contract with Facebook Ireland Limited, Schrems asked the social network to deliver him a copy of all the interactions he had been party to via his account. Facebook sent him a PDF file of 1,200 pages whose contents ranged from transcriptions of chats to rejected friend requests.
