Horst Ademeit | Polaroids

During the last 40 years of his life, Horst Ademeit documented the harmful influ- ence of “cold rays” on himself and on the environment, with the help of a Polaroid and a digital camera. Each image is numbered and dated and bears inscriptions that indicate both physical and sensitive questions, such as: smells, sounds, moods, atmospheric characteristics or news, which he carried out using thermometers, compasses, watches and other devices. To protect himself from the “cold rays”, Ademeit placed, in any orifice of his body, some small wooden spheres that he made himself. This set forms part of a complex archive of everyday information, in which the artist tries to establish order in an apparently chaotic world.
