Afghanistan. The War Logs | Mark McCormick, Paddy Allen and Alastair Dant
Produced based on the Wikileaks leaks, this application provides a unique record of attacks since 2004. It covers only the IED explosions, roadside bombs triggered by command wire, radio signal, mobile phone or by the victim, usually by walking or driving over the devices. 16,000 improvised explosive devices are recorded in the Afghanistan war logs, rising from 308 in 2004 to 7,155 in 2009. This database shows the figures soared in the run-up to the 2009 presidential elections, with more than 100 attacks in three days.
