Pertes de l’armée française dans la Campagne de Russie | Charles Joseph Minard

Statistical graphic that reflects the different variables of the disastrous Russian campaign of the Napoleonic Army, in the years 1812-1813. It ingeniously combines the map of the military campaign with the visual representation of the number of men who remained in Napoleon’s Army. Of the 422,000 men who began the invasion, only 10,000 returned alive. The data of this infographic show the initial size of the army and its progressive reduction, geographical information on the journey, that situates the army on the map at all times, and the movements of the troops (how they separated and reunited and the number of soldiers).
